Many old methods have large errors

Li Daoqing, a senior engineer at the School of Science and Technology of South China University of Tropical Agriculture, told the reporter that the determination of dry glue content in latex is very important for guiding the production of rubber tapping, rubber and latex, and the research and management of rubber industry. However, before the 1970s, China used the standard method to determine the natural rubber latex content, but this method is time consuming (8-12 hours), power consumption, and cumbersome operation. It is only suitable for measuring small samples. Then, there were more than ten kinds of instruments and methods for measuring dry glue such as specific gravity method, photoelectric method and infrared measuring glue meter, but these methods have large errors.

Li Daoqing said that it was a worldwide problem to quickly and accurately detect dry glue. In 1980, the Malaysian Rubber Research and Development Committee had tendered to the world, hoping to collect fast and accurate glue measuring instruments or more advanced measuring methods. Although there are 63 countries providing 63 test methods and instruments, none of them meet the requirements.

New Technology Division leads the world

Later, Li Daoqing thought of the microwave technology that was only used for military technology at the time. The latex contains moisture, and when the microwave penetrates the latex, the moisture absorbs the microwave. The more water, the more microwaves are absorbed. Li Daoqing uses this principle to detect dry glue. In 1993, the microwave latex measuring instrument was successfully developed.

“At the time, we felt that the technology was not stable enough. For example, when the moisture content of the latex exceeded 85%, it could not be detected.” In order to solve this problem, Li Daoqing and other developers continued to debug and improve in practice. For the rest of the debugging and improvement, in 2005, this project was finally completed.

Li Daoqing proudly told reporters that "DH925A microwave latex tester is at the world's leading level. Now, it takes only 6 seconds to test a latex sample, and the error is very small, the maximum error is five thousandths. Its accuracy is better than the past drying method. , increased by more than 40 times."
