Kobelco Motors began production of speed detectors for China Shinkansen in China

Japan's Kobelco Motors has begun production of speed detectors for Chinese high-speed rail trains based on the Japan Shinkansen, etc., at a joint venture production company in China. With this instrument, information such as speed can be transmitted to the train control device or the like. Originally produced in Japan, this time, in response to the localization requirements of the Chinese government, it has been converted to costly production.

Production is handled by Tianjin Kobelco Electric (Tianjin), a joint venture with Chinese machinery manufacturers. It has been producing at Ise Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Ise City, Mie Prefecture). It has started production through the promotion of technology transfer and production guidance to the joint venture company, with a monthly production capacity of 40 units. After one year of planning, the production scale will be increased to 80 units per month, and the proportion of parts purchased in China will be increased.

The speed detector is mounted on the axle of the train, and the change of the voltage can be detected by the rotation of the axle to obtain the speed information of each train.

By sending information to the automatic train control unit (ATC) and the brake control unit, rail wear caused by train idling and braking is prevented. Each train will be equipped with 8 to 20 speed detectors.
