Application of Carbon Dioxide Monitor in Greenhouse Cultivation

The cultivation of fruits and vegetables in the off-season is very common nowadays. Generally, the cultivation facilities are in greenhouses. An important factor affecting the yield of vegetables is the lack of CO2. The timely and appropriate application of CO2 in greenhouses has significantly improved the growth, yield and quality of vegetable crops. Maintenance needs to analyze and summarize the changes in carbon dioxide in the greenhouse so that the application of suitable carbon dioxide gas fertilizers can be formulated. The carbon dioxide monitor can effectively monitor the carbon dioxide situation in the greenhouse.

The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is about 340 mgPkg. In the middle of the year, the near-surface concentration is generally lower from April to June, and from November to February in the following year. In September-October and April-June, without the addition of CO2, the pattern of change is roughly the same as that of the outside world. In winter, greenhouses for insulation are often in a confined state. The growth of tomatoes in greenhouses is strong. CO2 fertilization is performed. The maximum concentration of CO2 in greenhouses is 1250 mg Pkg. Under good weather conditions, photosynthesis of tomato consumes a large amount of CO2, and the concentration of CO2 decreases sharply. Even in the case of CO2 supplementation, a lower concentration of 200 mg Pkg has appeared.

The CO2 monitor has found that there is a clear daily change in the CO2 concentration in the greenhouse. The general rule is that before sunrise, the concentration of CO2 in the greenhouse gradually accumulates, and the concentration reaches the maximum before and after sunrise; the tomato undergoes photosynthesis after sunrise The gradual consumption of CO2 in the greenhouse, from 10 am to 2 pm CO2 concentration to the lowest point, about 4 pm, with the weakening of photosynthesis gradually increased, the evening CO2 concentration gradually accumulates. On cloudy days, due to weak light, crop photosynthesis is also weak, and the concentration of CO2 in the greenhouse will be smaller. The CO2 concentration change ranged from 470 to 520 mg Pkg on October 14, 2000. The change was small. The reason may be related to the tomato growth period and weak light. In the case of extremely low light, the concentration of CO2 in the greenhouse may be higher than that in the outdoor. The minimum CO2 concentration in the greenhouse on February 2 is 380 mg Pkg. However, sometimes the concentration of CO2 in the greenhouse during the daytime will be lower than that in the outdoor, and on the 1st of November in the greenhouse. The minimum CO2 concentration is 300 mgPkg.

By measuring the carbon dioxide content in a room with a carbon dioxide monitor and analyzing the yield of vegetables, the cost-effective CO2 concentration for the growth and yield of vegetable crops is 600-1000 mg Pkg. Above this concentration, it can increase production, but it is economically uneconomical. Therefore, the upper limit of concentration of CO2 emitted from soilless cultivation tomatoes in modern greenhouses should be 1000mgPkg. When the light intensity is strong, the concentration should be higher; on cloudy days or weak light, the concentration should be reduced.
