Toyota also said in a statement that the recalled vehicles were equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 petrol engine. The diaphragm material used in this engine's fuel pulsation damper may harden and crack over time, causing fuel to leak.

A Toyota spokesperson did not comment on whether the recall had caused injury or death.
