What is an electric spark detector?

EDM detector, also known as EDM leak detector, anti-corrosion leak detector, EDM leak detector and so on. The instrument is mainly used to detect the presence of pinholes, sand holes, and other defects in thick non-conductive coatings on metal substrates.

Its working principle is that the metal surface insulation coating is too thin, the resistance value and the air gap density at the leakage metal and the leakage hole are very small. When a high pressure passes through, an air gap breakdown is formed to generate a spark discharge, which generates an alarm circuit. A pulse signal, the alarm sound and light alarm, so as to achieve the purpose of leak detection coating.

The instrument is very simple to use, one end is grounded, and the other is a probe. The instrument sends a DC high voltage through the high voltage probe. When the probe passes the defective coated surface, the instrument will automatically sound and light alarm.

The current electric spark detectors are mostly divided into two types, 15Kv and 30Kv, for measuring different thicknesses of coatings. Most of the instruments are equipped with rechargeable batteries, which are convenient for use on the construction site and in the workshop. There are many kinds of probes, in order to apply different working environments and workpieces.

The instrument comes with a calculation table, which can calculate the pressure applied according to the thickness of your coating. The voltage is too high, it will breakdown the coating, the voltage is too low, and you can't detect pinholes and other defects.
