Shandong shipping has turned its back, but COSCO has "has no way to go"

In the battle to expand into the Chinese market, Vale's main role is not the shipowner, but the global iron ore distributor – as for its fleet, it is only part of its distribution network.

Observers pointed out that if there is another Brazilian company to take over its super-large ore ship (Valemax), it is likely to be similar to its agreement with Shandong Shipping - that is, signing a multi-party agreement with a company with a regional government background. This may involve domestic shipowners and steel manufacturers, domestic or international terminal operators, local port authorities, and even other local industrial enterprises. In order to establish such alliances, Vale is obviously painstaking. In fact, when it broke the ban in April and quietly unloaded the 402,000-ton non-full-load Vale Malaysia round (built in 2012) in Lianyungang, this thought is self-evident.
At present, there are at least three ports interested in cooperating with such alliances. They are well-known ports in the industry that are capable of accepting 400,000-ton ships: Dalian Port – prohibited by the Chinese government for safety concerns and above 300,000 tons. Before the ship arrived at the port, the port accepted the 288,000-ton Berge Everest round of Vale in December 2011 (built in 2011); Dongjiakou Port - under the jurisdiction of Qingdao, located along the coast of the city; and the traces of the Zhoushan Islands Mountain port.
However, several Chinese ports are also planning this plan. For example, Lianyungang, which has a large expansion force, has intensified its land acquisition for new dry bulk projects in recent years and has begun to gradually increase the depth of berths and waterways. In addition, it is said that Caofeidian Port, Bayuquan Port and Rizhao Port in North China, Ningbo Port in East China, and Fangcheng Port near the Vietnam border are also eager to be among the ports capable of accepting large dry bulk carriers.
It is worth mentioning that Vale's 35 Valemax ships are named according to the corresponding major loading and unloading ports, provinces and countries, and China's “lucky” ports include Caofeidian Port, Dalian Port, Dongjiakou Port and Majishan Port. And Qingdao Port.
