New progress in research on super-hydrophobic functional coating materials of Lanhua Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Recently, researchers from the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (abbreviated as Lanhua Institute), led by Zhang Zhaozhu and researchers led by Liu Weimin used a simple, economical and practical method for preparing composite organic coating materials on aluminum, copper, steel, and other metal materials. A super-hydrophobic surface functional coating material with a micro/nano structure was constructed to solve the key technical problem of the construction method of the super-hydrophobic coating material in engineering applications that is complicated and practically difficult. The project team used PTFE and polyphenylene sulfide composite polymers to construct a superhydrophobic coating with a low surface energy hydrophobic group and a porous network micro-nanostructure on the surface using a one-step film-forming method. The coating has excellent superhydrophobic performance, excellent acid and alkali resistant media properties, good resistance to high and low temperature and long-term stability, and has high bonding strength with the substrate, laying the scientific foundation for engineering applications of super-hydrophobic organic coating materials. And technology foundation. The results of this study were published in the recently published Advanced Materials (2008, 20, 970-974).
In recent years, Lanhua Institute has made good progress in the preparation of surface micro/nanostructures and hydrophobic properties of engineering materials, and applied for and obtained multiple Chinese patents for inventions. The series of research work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the "973" project of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
