Hitachi Group announced on February 27, 2014 that it will incorporate Hitachi Vehicle Energy’s design and R&D business into Hitachi Automotive Systems to facilitate the optimization of its business structure The further growth and expansion of its electric power system business.
Hitachi Vehicle Energy will transfer its design and R&D operations to Hitachi Automotive Systems on April 1st. Related business areas include lithium-ion battery-related business planning, design, and R&D for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Hitachi Group stated that the purpose of this business restructuring is to optimize synergies in the design and development of electric power systems, while consolidating its R&D capabilities in battery technology. In addition, the integration of Hitachi Vehicle Energy's battery control technology and Hitachi Automotive's electric-driven vehicle system control technology will also help Hitachi Group improve its ability to provide optimized solutions.
Hitachi Automotive Systems was established in July 2009 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Group. Its business includes the development, manufacturing, sales, and service of automotive parts and components, transportation equipment related parts, and industrial machinery and systems. The company's capital is 150. 100 million yen (about 150 million U.S. dollars).
Hitachi Vehicle Energy Co., Ltd. is also affiliated with the Hitachi Group. It was established in July 2004. The company's capital is 7.5 billion yen (about 74 million US dollars), and it is mainly used for the marketing, development and production of lithium ion batteries for vehicles.
