MAN wins orders for 30 dual fuel engines

MAN Diesel & Turbo (MAN), the world's largest manufacturer of marine engines, announced that it will supply 30 dual-fuel engines for six LNG carriers built by Shanghai Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The shipments are expected to be delivered between April 2016 and November 2017. It is understood that these ships will hang the Hong Kong flag.

The new vessels will use MAN dual-fuel diesel-electric propulsion, making it the first large-scale LNG carrier to be built in China. MAN China revealed that the design load of the new ship reached 174,000 cubic meters. The steel cutting (starting) of the first ship will be held in January 2014. The last ship will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2017. MAN is located in the southern part of Germany. The Gesberg plant will be responsible for the design and manufacture of the dual fuel engine for this order.

It is reported that the Lloyd's Register of Shipping will approve and supervise the ships. It is the first time that the classification society has obtained the LNG ship project in China, and the China Classification Society will participate as the second classification society. According to MAN, the route of the new ship plan service after delivery is the five major receiving stations for transporting LNG natural gas from Australia to Queensland, including Shandong Qingdao, Guangxi Beihai, Tianjin, Jiangsu Lianyungang and Zhejiang Wenzhou.

The shipowners of the batch of vessels are joint ventures jointly established by Sinopec Guande, Zhonghai LNG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Shipping Development, and Mitsui, a merchant ship; the banks providing syndicated loans include China Exim Bank, ICBC, Bank of China, Sumitomo Mitsui , Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ and Mizuho Industry.
