According to the cooperation agreement signed by the two companies, New Zealand Langze Technology and Baosteel Metal Co., Ltd. will cooperate to establish China's first waste gas remanufacturing business "Shanghai Baosteel Lanze Energy Co., Ltd." and begin implementation of the 300-ton ethanol demonstration plant project. If the demonstration plant project succeeds, the 100,000-tonne annual commercial ethanol plant project will be launched in due course to achieve industrialization and be promoted in other steel mills across the country.
Sheng Zhongke, president of the Gas Operation Center of Baosteel Metal Co., Ltd., said that the new Shanghai Baosteel Lanze New Energy Co., Ltd. converts the tail gas (carbon monoxide and hydrogen) of blast furnaces, converters and coke ovens into ethanol in an economical and sustainable manner. According to the plan, it is hoped that the demonstration plant project will be successful by the end of this year. The first commercial chemical plant can be built next year, with an investment of about 500 million to 600 million yuan. According to estimates, a commercial project with an annual output of 100,000 tons can be compared with food fermentation. Ethanol production costs 30% to 40% lower.
