Domestic carbon nanomaterials measurement of national standards to achieve "zero" breakthrough

China Institute of Metrology was informed that the standards for the chiral, length and purity of single-walled carbon nanotubes developed by the hospital have filled in the blank of the value transmission system for carbon-based nanomaterials in our country and provided technical support for breaking the trade barriers.

Although China is a big country producing carbon nanotubes, due to the lack of a unified national standard, carbon nanotubes have encountered technical barriers to trade when they export.

Project Leader, Ren Lingling, deputy director of China Institute of Metrology introduced carbon nanotube materials used more single-walled carbon nanotubes. Single-walled carbon nanotubes with purity higher than 90% have been priced at more than $ 1,000 / gram, while those below 90% sell for only about one-tenth of their price. In order to avoid trade barriers, domestic single-walled carbon nanotubes can only be exported with purity less than 90%, with a loss of nearly 9 million yuan per 1 kg export, greatly restricting the development of China's carbon-based nanomaterials industry.

"Carbon-based nanomaterials have high requirements on measurement equipment and measurement methods due to their nano scale, high surface energy and easy reunion," Ren Lingling told reporters. Under the support of the State Science and Technology Support Program, the task force solved this problem after four years of research. "These standards are like a ruler, different enterprises, different measurement equipment through the ruler measurement results are consistent, comparable." Renling Ling explained.

In addition, the research group also established a set of laser confocal Raman microscopy standard measuring device can be used for carbon nanotubes, graphene and other carbon-based nanomaterials structure, purity and other characteristics of the amount of accurate measurement and traceable to National spectral irradiance baseline.
