Chemical industry finds new ways to save water

In the summer, the oil and chemical industries, which are hot and the heat of the industry's large water consumption, must calmly face the pressure of how to ease the shortage of water resources and actively seek new ways to effectively realize the comprehensive utilization of water resources. From May 21 to 23, the “World's First Water Show” held in Shanghai, the international water treatment exhibition in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, blew up a strong environmental protection wind. More than 300 international “water giants” from more than 20 countries Gathering together, they have demonstrated their cutting-edge water-saving environmental protection technologies and products, which has made it possible for the oil and chemical industries to face energy-saving, emission-reduction and water-saving pressures.
Water scarcity is a worldwide problem. The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and the World Water Resources has warned that the next crisis after human resources crisis is water resources. China is a major water-scarce country. From the point of view of freshwater resources, the world’s per capita capacity is 12,900 cubic meters, and China is only 2,695 cubic meters, which is less than a quarter of the world’s per capita occupancy. Premier Wen Jiabao clearly pointed out in this year’s “Government Work Report” that this year is a crucial year for fulfilling the binding targets of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” for energy-saving and emission reduction. It is imperative to enhance the sense of urgency and increase energy-saving emission reduction and environmental protection efforts. The issue of sewage treatment has reached a moment of urgency.
Under such an urgent situation, due to the shortage of water resources in recent years, seawater desalination technology has become the focus of attention in the industry. At the China Water International Conference held in April this year, participating experts once said that desalination projects, reclaimed water projects, and sewage treatment projects will usher in unprecedented opportunities for development, and water treatment is forming a large industry. It is understood that in foreign countries, the equipment and technology in this area are quite mature, and China still needs a great improvement compared with developed countries.
At this year's exhibition, Dow Chemical, which is the “Veteran” of membrane technology, brought the world's largest market share of reverse osmosis and nanofiltration membrane products to the exhibition. This product and technology have been successfully applied to the Beixiaohe Sewage Treatment Plant, It is among new expansion projects such as Beijing Capital International Airport sewage treatment plant and Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone sewage treatment plant.
GE Group, which has always been committed to improving the living environment of human beings and developing the most advanced water technology, has introduced the exhibition technology, drinking water purification technology ("Nanofiltration membrane" technology), which has been used in the National Stadium Bird's Nest. This high-end nano-membrane technology can set the filter pores on the membrane to be very small, so as to block impurities and obtain high-quality water. According to the person in charge of the project, the implementation of this technology can fully meet the opening requirements of the Olympic Games and the drinking needs of each audience in the Bird's Nest during the competition. Norit Group, the world's largest supplier of activated carbon, took out its "town hall treasure" ultrafiltration membrane technology, which has been successfully applied in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games supporting power plant project. Porous ultrafiltration membrane modules exhibited by the German ultra-filtration membrane manufacturer, the German Geiger Corporation, have also been successfully used in the Beijing Olympics' supporting project, the Capital Airport Reclaimed Water Reuse Project, with a processing capacity of 10,000 cubic meters. In meters/days, the treated water was eventually used for office facilities, toilets, green irrigation, road cleaning, vehicles, and aircraft cleaning in the Capital Airport area.
The analysis of industry experts at the conference pointed out that the landing of the Amsterdam International Water Treatment Exhibition not only established a platform for domestic oil and chemical companies to understand water treatment products and technologies, but also helped the oil and chemical industry to develop an energy-saving, emission-reducing, water-saving and The new road to industrialization of comprehensive utilization of resources.
