Fertilizers, disinfectants: Supply is not a problem

On May 17, Vice Minister of Agriculture Wei Zhaoan stated at the press conference held by the Information Office of the State Council that due to the small impact of the earthquake on the large-scale fertilizer companies, the issue of fertilizer supply for agricultural production in the disaster-stricken areas was not significant. In addition, as of the 17th, the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated 300 tons of dilutable disinfectant to the disaster-hit area, and prepared nearly 800 tons of disinfectant, which will be transported to the disaster area one after another.

Wei Zhaoan pointed out that chemical fertilizers are necessary materials for restoring agricultural production in disaster-affected areas. The earthquake disaster mainly occurred in the mountainous areas, and large-scale fertilizer companies did not suffer major impacts. Fertilizer companies in the surrounding areas of the earthquake have been affected by transportation and other factors. However, in general, the supply of fertilizers in this year's disaster areas, including nitrogen fertilizers, phosphate fertilizers, potash fertilizers, and compound fertilizers, will be sufficient. Therefore, to restore agricultural production in affected areas, there will be no problem with fertilizer supply.

Li Jinxiang, director of the Veterinary Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that in order to prevent the occurrence of major epidemics after the disaster, especially the epidemic of zoonotic diseases, the experts group of the Ministry of Agriculture has selected 4 of the 12 conventional disinfectants to be of low environmental pollution. Humans and animals do not have disinfectants that are harmful and disinfectant. By the end of the 17th, 300 tons of disinfectants that could be diluted 200 times had been allocated to the disaster-stricken areas in Sichuan. In addition, nearly 800 tons of disinfectants were prepared to be transported to the affected areas in accordance with the needs of the affected areas.

The Ministry of Agriculture also urgently allocated protective clothing, disinfecting machinery, tents and other necessary materials to the affected areas. At present, 13,000 sets of manual sprayers and 3,000 sets of motorized sprayers, and 10 tons of disinfectant insecticides, 20 tons of rat medicine, and 100 boxes of hygienic insecticides have been dispatched from Beijing, Shandong, Chongqing, Hubei, and other places.
