Truck sales in May increased by more than 30% year-on-year


Affected by the May Day holiday, the truck market in May continued the downward trend in April, and the average decline in production and sales volume in each segment reached 19.97% and 16.70%, respectively. Compared with the same period, truck production and sales maintained a significant growth trend, both increasing by more than 30%.

According to the statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in May, the truck industry produced 19,050 automobiles and sold 19,572 vehicles, which was a year-on-year increase of 32.27% and 31.56%, respectively.

Heavy trucks increase year-on-year

In May, the level of production and sales in the heavy truck market declined slightly from the previous month, but the year-on-year increase achieved another high point after January. The data shows that in May heavy trucks produced and sold 48,985 vehicles and 50053 vehicles, respectively, which represented a significant increase compared with the same period of last year, with an increase of 88.61% and 77.56%, respectively, and a decrease of 11.38% and 7.19% respectively.

In May sales, the heavy-duty trucks and chassis with a total capacity of 26 tons and a total mass of ≤ 32 tons still maintained a good growth trend. From the industry sales data, the year-on-year growth rate of major heavy-duty truck manufacturers in May was more significant than that of the previous month. Among the top six companies, half of the companies' growth rate exceeded the industry's growth rate year-on-year, of which Foton and Shaanxi Auto's growth rates were 118.84% and 96.47% respectively year-on-year. In the corporate market ranking, FAW continued to occupy the top position with a total of 46,882 sales. In May, it sold 10,275 heavy trucks, an increase of 70.65% year-on-year. Sinotruk and Dongfeng ranked second and third respectively, with a total of 42,889 heavy trucks and 35,574 heavy trucks. Shaanxi Automobile, Futian and Hongyan ranked fourth to sixth in turn, with cumulative sales of 26,183, 24,963 and 11,100 vehicles respectively.

10 to 12 tons of card market further shrinking

In May, the production and sales volume of the China Card Market continued to pick up momentum year-on-year. According to statistics, during the month of May, China Card produced a total of 22,140 units and sold 23,004 units, an increase of 39.0% and 29.49% year-on-year, respectively. Compared with March, it decreased by 12.17% and 14.39% respectively.

From the perspective of the China Card Market, the total vehicle and chassis in the 10 ton <total mass ≤12 tons range continued to show a downward trend, with 2,627 units sold in May, a year-on-year decrease of 8.4%. For the 8 tons, total quality ≤ 10 tons and 12 tons, and total quality ≤ 14 tons, the card products showed rapid growth. In May, they sold 3,236 vehicles and 613 vehicles, respectively, an increase of 31.44% and 46.65% respectively.

In the card sales market, Dongfeng and FAW continued to expand their leading edge, accumulatively selling 29,502 vehicles and 28,755 vehicles. The gap between sales volume and the third position has widened to more than 20,000. In May, Dongfeng sold 6012 cards, an increase of 16.60% year-on-year; FAW sold 6,714 cards, a year-on-year increase of 73.26%. Chengdu Wangpai, Jianghuai, and Shaanxi Automobile were ranked three to five. The cumulative sales of the three companies were 8410 vehicles, 6,959 vehicles and 3,890 vehicles, respectively.

Light and micro card sales increase faster than the same period last year

Compared with the steady growth in the past, the sales volume of light trucks and micro cards in May increased significantly year-on-year. According to statistics, light trucks produced and sold 90,106 vehicles and 94,841 vehicles in May, a year-on-year increase of 35.51% and 35.55%. Compared with March, sales volume decreased by 19.07%; micro-cards produced and sold 28,819 vehicles and 29,674 vehicles in May, an increase of 9.84% and 19.06 respectively. %, compared with March, sales fell 4.43%.

From the perspective of the light-duty card segment, the light-duty trucks in the range of 4.5 tons <total mass ≤ 6 tons continued to grow rapidly with an increase of 55.40%, and its sales volume was 11610 units. In contrast, the light trucks with a sales volume of 4.5 tons and a total mass of ≤ 6 tons have a relatively stable growth rate of 25.37%, but their sales volume is 48,956 units, accounting for 51.62% of the total light truck sales.

Judging from the sales performance in May, Foton continued to lead the light truck market with cumulative sales of 144,745 units. In May, it sold 28,045 light trucks, an increase of 16.40% year-on-year. JAC and Dongfeng ranked second and third respectively, accumulatively selling 46,999 vehicles and 36,713 light trucks. Among them, Dongfeng sold 5276 light trucks in May, achieving a year-on-year increase of 20.62%.

In the micro-card market, Changan, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Hafei ranked the top three, followed by their sales of 33,751, 27,694 and 21,567; their May sales were 6,695, 5,054 and 4,560, respectively.
