Daimler teamed up with Fuqi Group to build commercial vehicles

After selling Chrysler’s assets to Cerberus Capital Management, Daimler began a Chinese emergency march. On the 8th, Fujian Daimler Chrysler Automotive Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Fujian Daike") obtained a business license from the Fujian Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce. This also means that Daimler and Fujian Automobile Group formally marry.

It is understood that Fujian Dai Ke is jointly invested by Fujian Automobile Group, former DaimlerChrysler AG and Taiwan Zhonghua Automobile Industry Co., Ltd.

Fujian Dai Ke is currently applying for relevant certificates to start construction of the factory to catch up with normal production in mid-2009. It is reported that Fujian Dai Ke's factory is located in the Qingkou Investment Zone in Fuzhou City. The total planned production and logistics land is 660,000 square meters, of which the first phase is planned for 330,000 square meters. The first plants to be put into production will be Mercedes-Benz Vito, Viano and Lingte vans.

It is worth noting that Fujian Dai Ke's total investment is about 200 million euros, which is higher than the previous forecast of 188 million euros. Daimler’s increased investment in the new commercial vehicle base shows its determination to accelerate its entry into the Chinese market.

Daimler waited long for this day. A few years ago, the project and the Beijing Benz project appeared one after another in the Daimler China plan, but after the Beijing Benz put into operation, the Fujian project was repeatedly met with obstacles.

In November 2003, the National Development and Reform Commission formally approved the Fujian Benz light passenger project; at the end of October 2004, Daimler waited until the feasibility study of the Fujian light passenger project was approved, but after the introduction of the new "Automotive Industry Policy" in 2004, it has been used up. Daimler, a joint venture with a commercial vehicle, can only sigh. Subsequently, Daimler and Yangzhou Mercedes launched a long-held stock withdrawal negotiations. Until the end of 2006, Daimler officially retired from Mercedes-Benz in Yangzhou. Not long after that, in December 2006, the Fujian light passenger project was approved by the national competent authority.
