The outlet pressure acts on the bottom of the diaphragm and the bottom of the valve. When it exceeds the spring setting, the spring is compressed, closing the valve. As long as the downstream water flow, the outlet pressure will remain at the set value (the change is only 8% of the inlet pressure change); when the downstream water, the outlet pressure drops, the spring pushes open the diaphragm, open the pressure reducing valve. After the water flow continuously for a while, the opening of the pressure reducing valve produces a self-damping effect, so that the opening and closing motion tends to be stable.
