Ultra-light and zero-emission vehicles use acetal gears

Tim Brogla, a project developer at DuPont's High Performance Polymers Division in Wilmington, Delaware, said: "Conservatives will stop using POM in demanding gearbox applications. Obviously, this solution is for those so called." The traditional law 'has posed a challenge. This kind of new material gear is easier to accept in small engine gearboxes such as lawn mowers and golf carts."

PEORIA, ILLINOIS, USA (July 12, 2011) An urban ultralight vehicle program presented at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, USA shows acetal gears - especially the Delrin brand from DuPont. Gears made from POM - how they can provide the necessary strength, toughness and low friction for the driveline transmission system load pressure, while at the same time greatly reducing the noise and lightening the weight of the metal gear.

The Urban Ultralight Vehicle Program is the brainchild of Martin Morris, a professor of mechanical engineering at the university. He started designing and manufacturing a zero-emission vehicle in 2006. Now the car has evolved into a three-wheel drive design, holding a motorcycle license, can carry two passengers, with luggage space, weight 430 pounds (about 195 kilograms).
